Fixed Wire Testing in Schools

Does Your School or College Comply?
Previously the responsibility to ensure that schools complied with Electricity at Work Regulations (EAWR 1989) fell on local authorities. However recently as the number of Academies and Multi Academy Trusts have risen the responsibility has moved to the maintenance and management staff of the schools.
Now Schools must organise and budget for compliance work.
- Have you had a Fixed Wire Test carried out in the last 5 Years?
- Has a Portable Appliance test been carried out in the last year?
- Have you had your Emergency Lighting tested recently?
Portable Appliance Testing is an important part of ensuring that your school or college is a safe environment for your pupils and staff. It need not be an onerous expensive task to comply with the basic requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
By carrying out PAT and Emergency Lighting tests every year you can help to ensure the safety of your pupils, staff and any visitors on the premises.
It is vital to carry out Fixed Wire Tests every 5 years as part of your compliance, and to ensure that any necessary remedial work is carried out as a result of this test.
