thermal imaging London: What is it
Thermal infrared imaging involves using a particular camera to pick up on heat. It does this because it is sensitive to wavelengths in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. This particular spectrum can’t be seen by the human eye so the camera itself can make the ‘heat’ areas visible.
The heat is caused when an electrical wire or similar becomes loose. This causes a current, which, in turn, can increase heat in a particular area. Meanwhile, other areas of the system may not operate correctly as a result, which can eventually lead to an outage or a complete system failure further down the line. It can also mean expensive use of electricity which is not required, resulting in unnecessarily high utility bills.
thermal imaging London: Why use it
An invaluable diagnostic tool, thermographic imaging helps track down any electrical system failures that may have occurred in a building. It means it doesn’t just save lives by preventing a potential fire but can also prevent a problem from becoming worse and even more costly to repair as time goes on. That’s why it is used routinely in the maintenance and servicing of a building’s physical infrastructure.
A thermal imaging camera doesn’t just locate the problem but, in the right hands, i.e. a skilled electrician engineer - such as our team from Compliance Group Electrical - can provide enough information to determine how bad (or simple) the problem is. A qualified electrician should also be able to give a timescale to solve the problem, allowing work to resume as normal.
